Product Features

Sony 35mm f/1.4G Wide Angle Prime Lens (SAL35F14G)

The 35mm f/1.4G Wide Angle Prime Lens from Sony is a fast, wide-angle G-series lens that features an aspherical element to correct for distortion, reduce spherical aberration, and achieve sharper image quality. Its large f/1.4 aperture makes this lens great for low light conditions. It is constructed of 10 elements in 8 groups delivering sharp, clear photos throughout the zoom range. It has a minimum focusing distance of one foot and a front-end filter diameter of 55mm.

Aperture Range: f/1.4-22
With a maximum aperture of f/1.4 and minimum of f/22, this lens' high speed means you can capture images in darker conditions using faster shutter speeds and lower ISO sensitivity.
Aspherical Glass Lens Element
These precision lens elements correct distortion for sharper, more visually accurate images across the entire zoom range of the lens.
9x Circular Aperture Blades
Circular aperture blades produce smooth, rounded bokeh background effects when capturing spot-light sources in your pictures. Because the aperture blades form a near circle at the wide openings used for low-light shots, spot-light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.
Focus Hold Button & Auto Clutch
For full creative control, a focus hold button located on the lens can lock auto-focusing. In auto-focus mode, the manual focus ring does not rotate.

The Sony 35mm f/1.4G is one of those lenss that survived from the old Minolta era. The original design dates back to 1987 - the early days of the Minolta AF SLR system. The current incarnation is basically identical to the Minolta AF 35mm f/1.4G RS except for ADI support and cosmetic changes to match the current Sony Alpha look.

Sony Quality

Photography is creative. A photographer must make a number of critical choices that will determine the outcome. One of the most influential choices is the lens itself. What lens will provide the necessary control over composition and perspective, or how motion is captured? How will the lens function with filters that might be needed to change the characteristics of the captured light? There is no single right answer for every photographer and subject. Sony’s lens lineup offers everything the creative photographer needs to realize their vision. Economy, luxury, versatility, precision, legendary optical performance… it’s all there. The choice is yours.

Photographer's Choice

The angle of view provided by this focal length is one of the most comfortable and versatile on both 35mm full frame format and APS-C format cameras, and with that, this lens can be used for anything from close-ups to landscapes. With its superb optics and large f/1.4 maximum aperture, this is one of the finest fast 35mm lenss in its class. No-compromise G Lens construction and quality includes an aspherical lens element that contributes to consistently superior, low-distortion image quality right up to the f/1.4 maximum aperture.

Sony A-mount and E-mount System

In addition to overall size, the main difference between A-mount and E-mount lenss is their “flange back distance.” The flange back distance is the distance from the rear of the lens to the image (sensor) plane. Since many A-mount cameras have a reflex mirror between the rear of the lens and the sensor, precipitating the need to have a flange back distance that allows space for the mirror. E-mount cameras, on the other hand, are mirror-less and therefore can be designed with a much shorter flange back distance, allowing the body of the camera to be much smaller and consequently the lenss as well.
