Nikon EN-EL1 Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery
Many cameras in the Coolpix line use the EN-EL1 Lithium Ion battery as a power source. This high power, long life battery will endure approximately 500 cycles of use and recharging. At the end of the batteries life it will begin to lose it’s charge quickly and should be replaced. The battery itself is not covered under a Nikon warranty, however the battery charger is.
Charging the battery from empty to completely full will take approximately two hours. The LED on the charger will glow steadily when the battery is fully charged.
If possible the camera battery should be discharged before storage and if the storage is for an extended period of time the battery should be removed from the camera. If the battery is left discharged for an extended period it’s operational life will be shortened so it should be charged and used once a year. There is no need to discharge the battery before recharging.
Care should be taken with the battery when it is not in the camera. It should not be stored where keys, coins or other metal could touch the contacts. Ideally the included plastic cover will be used to protect the contacts.
