Dry Box

Before shelling out those extra thousand bucks of your pocket, you should know the importance of the dry box for your camera equipment, especially for countries where humidity levels are very high. For most of the optical photographic accessories, the ideal RH is considered to be in between 40-50%. As such, it is very essential to buy the camera dry box for ensuring moisture & humidity control, durability, strength and cost effectiveness. Below are the few points which show how imperative it is to select the right camera dry box for your equipment:

  1. Shutdown of the electronic circuits - The electronic circuits fail to fare well in humid condition over time and eventually they malfunction and shut down.
  2. Cracking of the plastic/rubber - It is very crucial to select a proper camera dry box as some of the cabinets keep humidity extremely low which can lead to the drying up of oil element & cracking of plastic parts in the equipment.
  3. Fungus growth on the camera lens - When exposed to high moisture level & humidity, there remains a high chance of fungus growth on your camera lens & which is almost impossible to clear.

Camera dry boxes are sold in every shape, size & designs but the most approved ones are in smaller sizes as they are very easy to clean & move. Most designs and models have shelves for you to stack your camera accessories, flashes and lenses.

Photographers can choose between the two types of camera dry boxes as below:

  1. Dessicant dry box- For a simple and cheap cabinet you can go for the dessicant dry box for the lens & equipment. This type is an airtight sealed box containing a silica gel.
  2. Electronic dry box- In case you prefer to manually adjust the humidity level then the Electronic dry box is the one for you.
